Having been in business for nearly 50 years, we are continually investing and upgrading our fleet. Not least because we need to keep ahead of legislation…
We all put fuel into our cars, vans and lorries because they get us where we want to go. But, in order to do that, they emit pollutants such as nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and particulates (also known as soot from diesel).
We’re on the road all the time, so of course, we want to do our bit for the planet by reducing harmful pollutants from vehicle exhausts.
The European Union directive that covers emission standards started with Euro 1 in 1993 and is now up to Euro 6. There’s also the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) in London. If a vehicle doesn’t meet the emission standards, drivers have to pay a daily charge to drive within the zone.
You’ll be reassured to know that all our vehicles comply with the relevant legislation.
All our artic trucks are already Euro-6 compliant, and we’re currently upgrading our rigid fleet accordingly. We’ve just bought a whole load of new Euro 6 emission vehicles, plus two new 7-car trailers and two new tractor units to pull them.
But that’s not all…
The Mayor of London has a Vision Zero plan which aims to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on London’s transport network by 2041.
With that in mind, there’s a new HGV Safety Permit for all lorries over 12 tonnes to enter or operate in Greater London.
There’s also a new Direct Vision standard which comes into place in October 2020. By measuring how much a driver can see directly through their cab windows, it indicates the level of risk to pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists near HGVs.
Our trucks are often required to go into London, so we are busy applying for permits and working towards the new standards.
Obviously, safety is a priority whenever we transport your high-value and hush-hush vehicles wherever they need to go. Just give us a call on 01727 836773 for a free no-obligation quote.
