One of our drivers features in a YouTube programme about the new Volta Zero – an electric truck designed for urban deliveries…
The Volta Zero is the world’s first, purpose-built, full-electric truck specifically designed for inner city and last-mile logistics.
The truck can carry up to 8 tonnes. “It’s a step up from electric Transit vans,” said presenter, Robert Llewellyn, @bobbyllew on Twitter. You might know him as Kryten from Red Dwarf or from Scrapheap Challenge.
It’s built in an eco-friendly, safe and sustainable way, to emit zero emissions even when sitting in congestion or when carrying refrigerated products.
Prototypes are being built from December 2021 with customer-spec vehicles due from December 2022. “It won’t be long before we see them operating on roads,” said Duncan Forrester, Chief Communications Officer of Volta Trucks.

***THE PART WE PLAY***
4% of the road miles in London are done by large trucks, but they cause 26% of pedestrian fatalities and 78% of cyclist fatalities (Source: TfL data). That’s why the driving position on the Volta Zero was placed centrally and lower to increase visibility.
All our team are skilled drivers who can operate all kinds of lorries, and Chelsea Courtney was chosen to demonstrate the Volta Zero.
You’ll see her loading, driving and charging the truck, and she’s interviewed about the experience starting at about 5:22.
“It’s bizarrely comfortable,” she says.
She also starred in the launch video. You can read about it in our article from September last year, Journey into the Future.
We’re not usually in front of the camera, the cars we deliver usually take the starring role!
